Description
On a rainy summer afternoon passing through the Talkeetna Mountains along the Matanuska River, Alaska, we arrived at the entryway to the Matanuska Glacier only to find the roads leading closer to it had been washed out and unpassable. Determined to capture a glimpse of the ice I could feel in the summer breeze from a mile away, I ventured in the rain to find a clearing, and within a few minutes of arriving at this spot, the rain cleared over head and settled directly over the glacier for this view. And as I watched the rain rinse the glacier of its grand form and definition, it occurred to me that I was witnessing right there and then, the demise of an Ice Age.
