Artist's Description
Foyn Harbor, Enterprise Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. As the 1915 whaling mission wrapped up, the crew of the Governoren threw a party below decks to celebrate a successful hunt and the journey home. But a knocked-over lamp sparked a fire that quickly spread, fueled by thousands of gallons of whale oil. The captain managed to ground the ship at Foyn Harbour, saving all 85 crew members, though the ship and its cargo were lost to the flames. #Shipwreck #Governoren #WhalingHistory #FoynHarbour
About Dee Potter
As an award-winning, multi-accredited fine-art urban landscape photographer and Branch Chair of the Professional Photographers of Canada, I cater to hospitality and travel companies who are looking for stunning photography. I capture the moment for me alone, then enjoy the image’s power to share the scene with others, and hopefully give them an experience of their own. I was born and raised, and currently live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada,...

What a haunting image. The back story adds even more to this picture. I love the beauty in the ice and the wreckage of the ship.
