Popular with filmmakers and tourists alike, Casa Loma has been celebrated as Toronto's Castle on the Hill for well over a century. Once known as Canada's largest private residence until it was appropriated by the City of Toronto in 1924 for unpaid taxes when the post-WWI Depression spiked the property bill from $600 per year to $1,000 a month. Since then, it's been a hotel, a speakeasy, a museum, and today is run by the Liberty Group for hosting weddings and events, and home to Michelin Star award- winning Don Alfonso 1890 Restaurant recently named #1 Best Italian Restaurant in the World, outside of Italy, by 50 Top Italy.
